Angelo R. Mozilo, who presided over the spectacular rise and devastating fall of Countrywide Financial Corp., settled a federal investor fraud and insider-trading lawsuit Friday by agreeing to pay $67.5 million in fines and restitution.
More than a third of that money — $25 million — was paid last month as part of a settlement with Bank of America Corp., which acquired Countrywide two years ago.
Friday's agreement with the Securities and Exchange Commission also includes two former top Countrywide executives, who agreed to pay a total of more than $5.6 million to settle securities-fraud allegations.
